Escalator repair and maintenance

1. Step guide rail

The step guides must be thoroughly cleaned. The cleaning work is done from the openings of the three steps. The escalator must be operated in sections by the maintenance control switch.

2. Comb plate contact inspection

Each comb plate has two safety switches; the closing distance of the switches is 0.5—1.0 mm, if at least one switch is opened, the escalator cannot start.

3. Tightening and driving of handrails

Due to the material of the handrail, it is not possible to give an accurate measurement of tension. If the tension is sufficient, the wheels in the pulleys on the steering end of the handrail may show signs of slight bulge on the surface of the handrail. When the escalator is running upwards, the handrail should not break away from the handrail guide and rise upward. When the escalator is cut off from the power supply and is about to stop running for a long period of time, the handrail should be loosened.

Dirty handrails or unsightly handrails should be treated as follows:

Wet a rag with handrail cleaning solution and wipe the top of the handrail firmly with the rag. If the handrail is too large, wipe it repeatedly until the handrail is shiny after being wiped with a dry cloth. It is forbidden to treat the inner surface of the handrail with talc.

5. Safety device

Do not require maintenance. Defective devices, especially contactors, should be replaced. In some cases: Some defective devices can be repaired by yourself. Contacts must not be ripped with a file.
